Virginia Firefighters Respond to Blaze

  At approx 8:50 p.m. on Jan. 10, Fairfax County 911 received a call reporting a major structure fire at 8610 Cherry Drive in the Merrifield section of the county. Engine and Tower 430 arrived on scene with in minutes and reported a single family home with heavy fire showing from sides Bravo and Charlie of the first and second floor. They attempted an interior attack. Upon arrival, the battalion chief requested that the evacuation tones be sounded and a second alarm put on the road. This brought the total to over 40 firefighters to the scene.

They attempted an interior attack. Upon arrival, the battalion chief requested that the evacuation tones be sounded and a second alarm put on the road. This brought the total to over 40 firefighters to the scene.

They worked for over an hour fighting the fire and the below freezing temps to bring the blaze under control. Neither of the two occupants of the home was injured.

The home was declared a total loss and the fire is still under investigation.
