Controlled Burn Conducted in N.C.

  The City of Gastonia Fire Dept. assisted the North Carolina State Parks system with a hazard reduction burn at the Crowders Mountain State Park on Wednesday, Jan. 6. The 540 acres burned on what is known as "The Pinnacle" section of the park. The objective was to remove fuel that has been accumulating in an area that has not seen much fire activity for some time. Gastonia Fire Department sent two personnel with a brush unit from Station 8. These firefighters assisted state park units by improving existing fire lines and firing out.

Approximately 50 personnel from various state parks, four crews from the NCFS "B.R.I.D.G.E." program, and local agencies participated.
