N.C. Firefighters Respond to Blaze

  Firefighters from Crowder’s Mountain Volunteer Fire & Rescue, The City of Gastonia Fire Department, and Union Road Volunteer Fire Department battled a structure fire at 3621 Somerset Drive in Gaston County the morning of Dec. 23.

Crowder’s Mountain Volunteer Fire & Rescue received a dispatch call at approximately 10:16 a.m., of a structure on fire. Firefighter Scott Hardin from Crowder’s Mountain Volunteer Fire & Rescue was first on scene and made his initial fire attack approximately five minutes after the call was dispatched.

Firefighters were able to get the fire under control in approximately 15 minutes. 15 to 20 firefighters from all three departments battled the fire. The structure received up to 90 percent damage because of the fire.

No civilians or firefighters were injured on the call.

The cause of the fire has not been determined and the Gaston County Fire Investigations Task Force is still investigating. The structure did not have working smoke detectors.
