On December 8, 2004 at 3:20 a.m. Castle Rock Fire Department units were dispatched to Subway located at 110 S. Wilcox after receiving a report of heavy smoke coming from the structure.

On arrival crews did find smoke issuing from the Subway and all attached occupancies to its north.

Second alarm status was requested and enacted immediately.

A fire was located in the Coffee Lodge, a business at the north end of the strip mall.

Thirty-six firefighters from Castle Rock Fire Department, South Metro Fire District and Parker Fire Department controlled the blaze within approximately 30 minutes.

The Castle Rock Fire Department investigation team has determined that the fire at the Coffee Lodge, 102 S. Wilcox St., originated in the attic space above the business office. The cause of the fire appears to be electrical in nature, though damage to the area was extensive. No arson is suspected in the blaze.

Investigation efforts by the Fire Department are terminated and the building has been released to the property owner.

Six occupancies in the strip mall remain closed for salvage and recovery efforts.
