NOVEMBER 24, 2004 -- At 8:44 AM, York County Engine and Rescue Company 68, of Fairview Township, Pennsylvania was dispatched with Cumberland County Engine Company 12 and Lower Allen Township to Interstate 83 for an accident with entrapment. The two townships both sent one BLS ambulance along with the first due Medic 81. Multiple calls report a tanker truck overturned in the north bound lane with possible entrapment.

Upon arrival, Ambulance 68 found an overturned propane tanker truck just north of the Limekiln Rd. exit on Interstate 83 in Fairview Township, York County. The first crew on scene learned that the tractor-trailer was in an accident involving an SUV. The driver of the SUV was not hurt and found walking on the accident scene. The driver of the truck remained inside until found by the EMS crew. He latter crawled out by himself and later refused treatment. The second ambulance and Medic 81 arrived and was notified by a witness that the propane tank may be leaking propane.

Engine 68, Engine 2-12, and Rescue 68 arrived and sized up the incident and created the action zones. Pennsylvania State Police and local police stopped all traffic in the southbound lane and started to evacuate local motels.

The first-in engine crews worked to stop the diesel spill from the tractor
