Md. Fire Displaces Several People

Oct. 19, 2009

Just after 6 a.m., firefighters from Beltsville, Branchville, Berwyn Heights along with units from near by fire departments were alerted for a house fire in the 4600 block of Naples Avenue.

First crews reported heavy fire showing from both floors of a two-story, single-family home with all of the residents out of the burning house.

With heavy fire conditions through out the house, firefighters made an aggressive attack, and were able to bring the fire under control within 20 minutes.

According to Mark Brady, public information officer for PG Fire/EMS, a barking dog and an activated smoke alarm awaken the residents which allowed them to get out safely.

One firefighter sustained burns to his upper body. He was transported to the Washington Hospital Center Burn Unit where he was treated and released.

Fire investigators continue to investigate the cause of the fire. The blaze caused about $250,000 damage.
