House Fire Tackled in N.C.

The Gastonia Fire Department responded to this house fire in the 1900 block of West Davidson Avenue around noon on Friday. They arrived to find moderate smoke coming from the roof of the house.

The house was cut-up as it had rooms added to it. The firefighters had a difficult time chasing the smoke through the attic as it had numerous dead ends and void spaces.

They had to cut several ventilation holes in the roof to allow the smoke and heat to escape.

There was a vacant apartment on the end of the house. The fire started on a sofa on the back porch of this apartment.

The Gastonia Fire Investigation Team has determined this fire to be incendiary. The Gastonia Police Department is assisting in the investigation of the fire. No arrests have been made at this time.

There were three engine companies, a ladder company, a rescue company , and two battalion chiefs that responded to this fire along with Gaston EMS.

The house sustained about $20,000 in damages.
