Garage Fire Tackled in New Jersey

Oct. 8, 2009

At 2:34 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3, the Kendall Park Volunteer Fire Co. was dispatched to a working garage fire.

Chief Perez established command and reported that the 50 x 30 garage was fully involved. Engine 221's crew led off the attack with two 2 1/2 inch lines while Ladder 223 crew along with the crew of Engine 204 from the Monmouth Junction Volunteer Fire Dept. assisted in stretching 500 feet of 5' supply line. The fire was under control in about 20 minutes.

The fire was particularly difficult to fight due to the fact that it was well advanced by the time it was reported, and the building was located approximately 600 feet down a long tight driveway.

Assisting at the scene were members of the Monmouth Junction Volunteer Fire Dept., the Kingston Vol. Fire Company and the Franklin Park Vol. Fire Company. The Kendall Park First Aid Squad provided rehab for firefighters along with treating a friend of the homeowner for minor burns to his hand he received while trying to extinguish the fire prior to the fire departments arrival.
