Businesses Burn in Queens

FDNY firefighters battled a stubborn three-alarm fire in a row of stores on Farmers Boulevard at 138th Avenue in Springfield Gardens, Queens on Saturday, Sept. 19.

The blaze began shortly after 4 p.m. in a 99-cent store and spread to two adjoining businesses, a check cashing establishment and a car service office.

Firefighters initially attempted an interior attack but withdrew due to heavy fire and smoke conditions,. Four tower ladders and multiple hand lines were used. An FDNY spokesperson said the fire was not believed to be suspicious.
