Maryland Townhouse Burns; Suspect Arrested

An adult male has been arrested by Greenbelt City Police for setting a Lanham/Greenbelt, MD townhouse on fire.

Around 4:45 Saturday Sept. 28, units from West Lanham Hills Station 848, Greenbelt 835, and Berwyn Heights Station 814 along with surrounding fire departments were alerted for a townhouse fire in the 6700 block of Village Park Drive.

Crews reported smoke showing from the first-floor garage area of a three-story townhouse.

Firefighters were able to enter the garage area and with an aggressive attack were able to bring the fire under control within 10 minutes.

According to police officers, a man crashed his car into the garage door of the townhouse, then jumped out and allegedly set fire to items inside the garage using a can of gasoline.

The man was arrested on the scene. It's unknown why he set the fire.

They were no injuries.

Fire investigators from Prince George's County Fire Department were called to the scene to determine the cause of the fire.
