Foam Used to Quell Iowa SUV Fire

Sept. 24, 2009

Pleasant Hill IA Firefighters responded to a car fire at the city's Youth Center in Dones Park to find a Ford Explorer's engine compartment fully involved.

A quick attack line from the front bumper of Rescue Engine 4370 was deployed.

A layer of foam from the truck's CAFS system quickly knocked the fire. Firefighters then opened all the doors to help vent and cool the interior.

Additional foam was applied to the dash area of the truck to take care of any fire inside. The system was switched to water to cool the engine compartment, tires and finally wash off the parking lot. Crews were back in service in around 30 minutes.

The owner stated he saw smoke coming from the front of the truck. He first thought was it had just overheated but then realized it was on fire and called 911.
