Maryland Crews Handle House Blaze

Sept. 17, 2009

In the early afternoon of Tuesday, Sept.8, units from Howard County Fire & Rescue were alerted for a house fire in the 9300 block of Wild Bees Lane in Columbia, MD.

Battalion Chief Mark Richards discovered smoke showing from the attic area, and fire showing on side Delta of a single-family house.

All hands on the first alarm were used, and a special call for a fire task force ensured adequate staffing in the event of fire spread.

Companies quickly completed a primary and secondary search of the house. Nothing was found. While some were searching, others hooked ceilings on the second floor to provide access to, and extinguish the fire.

Other personnel were assigned to initiate salvage operations on lower floors.

One firefighter sustained a minor injury. The residents of the house were displaced. No civilian injuries were reported.
