On Saturday, Sept. 5, just after 2 p.m., a box was was dispatched to an apartment on fire in the Alief district of Houston.
The first crews to arrive reported fire coming from a first floor unit. An offensive attack was initiated.
As firefighters tried to establish a supply line, they encountered a dead plug. Supply lines were laid from further sources and across a major street. Command ordered primary searches of the units, and to ventilate the adjoining roof.
The fire quickly spread and compromised the integrity of the structure. Command evacuated the structure and called for a second-alarm. Firefighters fought in defensive mode.
Five units were destroyed and nine others damaged.
No major injuries were reported. The Red Cross and apartment officials are helping those affected. The cause of the fire is not known.
