Louisiana Crews Tackle House Fire

 St. Amant - On Aug. 30, at 5:54 p.m., the St. Amant and Sorrento Fire Departments were dispatched to 48024 Rogers A Road for a residential structure fire.Crews notified the Ascension dispatch center of heavy smoke and flames visible while en route.

Crews notified the Ascension dispatch center of heavy smoke and flames visible while en route.

Firefighters from St. Amant and Sorrento entered the structure trying to push the fire out the rear of the home. The fire was already in the attic which forced the firefighters to move into a defensive mode.

Additional manpower was called from the 7th Dist and Galvez-Lake Fire Departments. Additional water was provided by the French Settlement Fire Department.

A firefighter was transported due to heat-related incident.

Demco, St. Amant Gas, American Red Cross were also dispatched to the scene along with the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office.

The Louisiana State Fire Marshal's Office was also called to the scene to assist with the investigation.

Firefighters were on scene for five-and-a-half hours. The fire department used six apparatus from St. Amant, Sorrento and French Settlement fire departments.

Over 20,000 gallons of water and eight gallons of Class A Foam were used to extinguish the fire. Ascension Parish and Livingston Fire Departments used over 35 firefighters in the effort to save the home.

The home was occupied by four adults and two children.
