Firefighters from the New South Wales Fire Brigades were kept busy on the night of the Federal Election (9 Oct) with a factory fire in Fisher St., Silverwater.

Firefighters from the New South Wales Fire Brigades were kept busy on the night of the Federal Election (9 Oct) with a factory fire in Fisher St., Silverwater.

A second alarm was called by the first responding pumper when large volumes of smoke were seen on the way to the call.

On arrival a third alarm was called with the lower section of a two story factory was fully involved in fire.

As firefighters began firefighting operations, a smoke explosion occurred blowing out several walls which caused the roof to collapse. A fourth alarm was then called.

It took 50 firefighters an hour to bring the blaze under control.

An adjacent factory was saved from sustaining any damage.There were no evacuations and no injuries were reported. Investigation into the cause of the blaze is underway.
