At around 11:30 PM on Saturday, September 25, 2004 Cedar Canyons, Grabill and Huntertown Fire Departments were dispatched to a reported barn fire on Schlatter Road in Northeast Indiana.

On their arrival, Cedar Canyons Volunteer Fire Department found a large horse barn fully involved. The barn was fully loaded with hay for the coming winter.

Cedar Canyons Volunteer Fire Department Pump 171 laid approximately 500 feet of 5 inch supply line up the driveway and Grabill Volunteer Fire Department staged at the road and setup water supply operations.

Huntertown Pump 91 was ordered to go up the driveway and join with Pump 171. Pump 91's deck gun was placed into service to knock the main body of fire down and several 2 1/2 inch hand lines were stretched to side one and four.

The incident commander then requested a Northeast county tanker response which brought additional tankers from St. Joe, New Haven and Woodburn Fire Departments.

The fire was brought under control in about a half hour. An excavator was called in to dig out the pile of hay so units could extinguish the fire completely.

The barn was home to several horses and all made it out safely.

Huntertown Volunteer Fire Department units cleared the scene around 2:00 am while Cedar Canyons and Grabill remained to mop up.
