LeRoy, NY - Reports of a car on fire sent firefighters to 4 West Avenue in LeRoy on May 27. Chief Bill Wood reported smoke issuing from a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GT.

The tow truck operator was preparing to tow the car from recycling, and heard a loud pop. The driver said the he was familiar with the sound of a GM fire. He attempted to extinguish the fire but was unable to open the hood.

The crew of Engine 63 stretched an attack line and a back up line, and had the fire under control in less than ten minutes.

Assistant Chief Tom Wood said there are tons of concerns when responding. There are "hundreds of cars parked next to each other, along with difficult access after hours".
