West Virginia Crews Respond to Sawmill Fire

The water had to be trucked in

On April 28, Cool Springs VFD responded to a Sawmill fire around 8 p.m. on Husqvarna Drive, off of Mountain View Road in Morgantown, W.Va.

When we arrived on scene the sawmill was fully engulfed, and other equipment on the outside was on fire, It was the largest fire that Cool Springs ever had in 50 years.

7 other departments from Monongalia County and Preston County responded. It took them 6 to 7 hours to get the fire under control, everything was a total loss. The fire departments used approximately 77 thousand gallons of water with no hydrant; water had to be trucked in.

The fire is being investigating at this time. Officials are not sure what started, possible electrical.

This was a family owned saw mill that was operated by Okey and Orval Dalton (Mountain View Lumber). They employed approximately 14 people. The sawmill has been there for over 35 years, but they have been in business longer.

Cool Springs VFD was established about 50 years ago. It is located on Fire Department Road of the Old Kingwood Pike in Morgantown W.Va. It has approximately 35 members in the department.
