EMS Crews Aid Big Rig Driver After Landing in Oklahoma's Blue River

On August 24, 2004, Bryan County EMS and Durant Fire Department where dispatched to a one vehicle accident at mile marker 20 on US Hwy 75 at the Blue River Bridge.

On August 24, 2004, Bryan County EMS and Durant Fire Department where dispatched to a one vehicle accident at mile marker 20 on US Hwy 75 at the Blue River Bridge.

The driver of the 18 wheeler stated he fell asleep at the wheel and woke up in the air in-between the north and south bound lanes of US 75. The 18 wheeler according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol went approx: 125 feet in the air and landed in the river.

The driver swam out of the truck and was found in the water next to the bank where he was packaged and Stokes basket used to remove him back up to the highway level. The driver was then loaded onto North Texas Lifestar (Sherman, TX) and taken to a Dallas, Texas hospital with neurological injuries.
