Late on the night of August 18th, firefighters from Castle Hill and Kellyville brigades responded to multiple calls of large amounts of smoke issuing from behind Jax Tires, on Old Northern Road, Castle Hill. Castle Hill firefighters arrived on scene to find a large, full, tire recycling bin well alight, with large amounts of black smoke issuing.

Crews got to work with 3 lines of 38mm (1.5 inch) hose with foam. Kellyville firefighters arrived and assisted in removing the tires from the bin. The fire took approx 15 minutes to get under control, but crews were on scene for an extended time making sure extinguishment was complete and there would be no re-ignition over night.
