Around 6:20 am on Saturday, August 14, 2004 the silent brisk morning air was broken by several engine companies responding to a 9-1-1 call of a house fire at 5003 St. Elmo Avenue in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

When Chattanooga Firefighters arrived on the scene, they reported a house heavily involved with smoke and flames. They were also told that there were still two men in the house.

Several firefighters began attacking the blaze while other crews began a search of the house looking for the two men that were still inside. The first man was found rather quickly and brought to an awaiting ambulance. Paramedics quickly started treating him and rushed him to Erlanger Medical Center.

The second victim was found a short time later and was taken out of the burning house by several firefighters. First responders and paramedics attempted to resuscitate the man but unfortunately it was too late.

The fire was brought under control after about an hour, but not before destroying most of the home. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
