Cincinnati Firefighters Battle Blaze at Vacant Building

Feb. 26, 2009

At approximately 8 p.m. on Feb. 19, numerous calls were received by the Cincinnati Fire Communication Center about a vacant building on fire across the street from 548 Prospect Place.

The first alarm consisted of: Engines 32 & 9; Trucks 32 & 19; RAT 23; Rescue 46; Districts 3 and 1, and Squad 9.

First crews encountered heavy fire conditions on the second floor of a three-story vacant building. Due to the size of the building and the amount of fire, a second alarm was requested at 8:27 p.m.

A defensive fire attack by firefighters brought the fire under control in less than one hour. Considering structural stability, crews were allowed to enter the structure for final extinguishment. There were no injuries.

The cause is under investigation. Damage is estimated at $100,000.00.
