Maryland Firefighters Extinguish Chicken House Fire

The crews of Engine 301 and Engine 1 found several small fires in the insulation, and quickly extinguished them all.

On Feb. 6, at 9:30 a.m., Wicomico County Central alerted Stations 3 (Fruitland), 1 (Salisbury) and 15 (Allen) for a reported chicken house fire on St. Luke's Road, in Fruitland. The crew of Engine 301 laid a three-inch supply line while Second Assistant Chief C. Twilley (3-18) established command, reporting a working fire.

The crew of Engine 301 pulled two 1 3/4-inch attack lines and began to work under the direction of the Interior sector officer. Personnel off Engine 1 positioned its apparatus on the back side of the structure and stretched a 1 3/4-inch attack line to assist with interior operations. Engine/Tanker 1503's crew was directed to assist with the interior attack as well. The crews found several small fires in the insulation and quickly extinguished them all. Personnel on Tankers 305, 306 and Engine Tanker 1-1 assisted with water supply. The fire was placed under control at approximately 10:30 a.m. All units remained on the scene for overhaul. By noon. command released all units with the exception of Engine 301. Command was terminated, and Engine 301 returned to service at 1:15 p.m.
