Illinois Crews Respond to House Fire

Feb. 4, 2009
Tanker operations were established.

At approximately 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 2 volunteers from Limestone Township, Ill. answered an alarm of a dryer fire. The crews of Limestone Engine 6 and Engine 1 arrived to find this well-involved two-story house. The fire had control of the garage and was quickly extending. The occupants and pets had escaped.

They quickly called for mutual aid companies from Logan Trivoli, Bartonville, Air Force firefighters from the Illinois ANG, Tuscarora and West Peoria. Dunlap volunteers covered the other firehouses.

The neighborhood is of new construction, and has hydrants. But the large water flow required quickly overwhelmed the single hydrant on the cul-de-sac where the home sat. Tanker operations were established to supply an aerial master stream and multiple hand lines on this defensive fire.
