A two-alarm fire destroyed an Amish barn in Lower Chanceford Township Thursday night at 9:50 p.m. on August 5. Delta Cardiff and Airville fire companies were initially dispatched. The 80 x 100 foot barn was completely engulfed in flames when Airville Fire Chief arrived.

Seven fire companies assisted Delta-Cardiff including units from Lancaster County and Harford County, Maryland. It took about 100 firefighters 45 minutes to bring the fire under control. Units were at the scene until 4:00 a.m. There was no damage estimate available. Cause is suspicious but may have occurred from a fuel leak from a generator. Six heifers and two cows perished in the fire.
