D.C. Crews Tackle House Fire

Jan. 30, 2009
Heavy fire was showing from the second floor.

On Sunday, Jan. 25 at 8:24 p.m. #4 Platoon was alerted for the house fire at 4423 Grant St. N.E. (Deanwood).

Due to numerous units operating on a Box Alarm in the third battalion and multiple Medical Locals, 30 Engine and 17 Truck were placed first due. The Box Alarm consisted of companies not regularly dispatched to alarms in the local.

The crew of 30 Engine arrived to find a two story detached single-family dwelling with heavy fire from the second floor. The crew advanced an attack line to the second floor and began to knock the fire as the truck personnel threw numerous ground ladders, performed horizontal ventilation, and a primary search which proved negative.

They had the fire knocked before the arrival of the remainder of the assignment.
