Texas Apartment Blaze Goes To Five Alarms

Aug. 6, 2004
A fire that produced smoke visible for miles raced through an apartment complex under construction causing major damage to the $32 million project.

The smoke and even fire could be seen from miles away. The apartments were built around a parking garage. Irving Fire Department was able to keep from getting out of control on two exposures.

The task was made more difficult because of the 100+ heat index and poor access on the west side, which is bordered by a canal. Trunk 7 repositioned and operated a master stream from across the canal.

Irving was assisted by several cities including, Dallas, Carrollton, Farmers Branch, and D/FW Airport. The Dallas Box 4/Salvation Army canteen and volunteers helps keep firefighters cool.
