Michigan Firefighters Extricate One On Interstate 196

At approximately 0900 hours on 7/30/04, the Grandville, MI, FD was dispatched to a reported unknown accident on Interstate I-196, at exit 69B.

C161 (Deputy Chief) arrived to find a full-size pick-up truck, towing a trailer with a seed machine, had rear-ended a semi tractor-trailer. E-Unit 159 arrived and units found the driver of the pick-up truck heavily entrapped.

Rescue Pumper 153 and Squad 158 were immediately dispatched. The dash and driver's side door had collapsed onto the driver upon impact, totally entrapping the driver. American Medical Response (AMR) of Grand Rapids arrived on scene and requested AeroMed due to the anticipated extended extrication. Georgetown Township FD (Chief 890, Deputy Chief 891, and E824 responded) was requested for mutual aid to set up a landing zone for AeroMed.

Numerous Rescue Tools were utilized and the patient was extricated in approximately 60 minutes. Grandville Police and Ottawa County Sheriff assisted on scene.
