Tennessee Firefighters Extricate Two In Fatal Crash

The Cumberland County Fire Dept. in Crossville TN was dispatched to an MVA with entrapment in the area of the 316 mile marker on I-40. Enroute, information confirmed multiple trapped occupants. Upon arrival of Unit 1, a Rescue Pumper, Training Officer Terry L. Potter & Captain Trevor Kerley found 2 patients to be trapped in the front seats.

The driver was freed by a door removal, and transported to the local emergency department by Cumberland County EMS with life threatening injuries. The front seat passenger, who succumbed to the injuries, was freed by removing the roof. Three other patients who were in the back seat were also transported by CCEMS to the local Emergency Department. All the Patients were later transported to a level 1 Trauma Center.

The Cumberland County Fire Dept. is a combination dept. made up of 10 paid and 165 volunteers. We are responsible for fire suppression, vehicle rescue, technical rescue, haz-mat and public fire education. The Dept. was started in 1974 and is one of only a few county wide departments in Tennessee.
