FDNY Firefighters Battle Fourth Floor Fire

At 13:03 on Saturday July 31st, Brooklyn received a phone alarm for box 1037 reporting a top floor fire in a building at the corner of Brooklyn Ave & Sterling Pl.

At 13:03 on Saturday July 31st, Brooklyn received a phone alarm for box 1037 reporting a top floor fire in a building at the corner of Brooklyn Ave & Sterling Pl. Subsequent calls reported the address of 222 Brooklyn Ave. with children trapped on the fire floor.

At 13:06 Engine 234 arrived and gave the 10-75 for fire on the top floor of a 4 story brick 20x60 and then pulled up to the exposure 2 side and let the 1st due truck, Ladder 123, pull in behind them and get the corner of the building. The 2nd due truck, Ladder 132, took the front of the building on the Brooklyn Ave. side. Battalion 38 arrived seconds later and transmitted the All-Hands on arrival, and then requested and extra engine & truck at 13:09. That brought in Engine 249 and Ladder 113.

The original assignment was Engines 234, 280, 214, 235; Ladders 123, 132, 111 (F.A.S.T. but was then put to work and replaced by Ladder 105) Engine 249 & Ladder 113 rounded out the assignment to 5 Engines, 4 Trucks, Battalions 38 & 57 Division 15, Squad 252, and Rescue 2. The fire was placed under control at 13:39. Engine 222 and Ladder 124 acting Ladder 111 were both assigned for relief.
