Delaware Firefighters Battle Harrington House Fire

Crews placed two hand lines in service

On Sunday, Jan. 4, at 5:52 p.m. Kent Center alerted Station 50 (Harrington) for a house fire in the 100 block of Grant Street in Harrington and advised units to switch to K-TAC4. Harrington Police Department Officers Kenny Brode (a captain with the Harrington Fire Company) and Adam Gillespie (an assistant chief with the Magnolia Fire Department) also responded and were the first to arrive. Officer Brode reported heavy fire showing from the rear of the structure.

Command 50 with Captain Jason Brode arrived shortly afterward and requested assistance from Station 48 (Felton) as well as a cover assignment for Station 50. Engine 50-1 arrived and crews placed two hand lines in service, one through the front door and the other to the C/D corner. Crews also hand stretched a 5-inch supply line to Engine/Tanker 50-2, which picked up the hydrant at Grant and Dorman Streets.

Command placed the incident under control at 6:33 p.m. and cleared by 8:10 p.m. The scene was turned over to the Delaware State Fire Marshal (FM-13, Brian Schad) for investigation.
