Florida Crews Perform Unusual Rescue

The pet was at the top of a palm tree

PORT ORANGE, FLA Dec. 11, 2008-At 10:18 a.m. this morning, Port Orange Fire-Rescue responded to an uncommon call.

Engine 71 was dispatched to 5257 Pineland Avenue for a pet iguana stuck in a palm tree.

Firefighters arrived on scene to find a 2-foot long pet iguana perched approximately 25 feet in the top of a palm tree.

A short time later, an aerial ladder truck (Squirt 73) was dispatched and Firefighter Garfield Wilson climbed the 65-foot aerial ladder to retrieve the iguana, named "Buddy," for her teenage owner, Daniel Eddings.
