Maryland House Destroyed by Fire

Feb. 6, 2008
The cause is under investigation

On Jan. 28 at 5:19 p.m., the Anne Arundel County Fire Department was dispatched for a dwelling fire in the 300 block of Marley Neck Road in the Glen Burnie area.

When the crew of Engine 181 (Marley) arrived, they found a two-story vacant farmhouse fully involved. They established a defensive operation.

The house was in a remote area back off of the road and water had to be shuttled to the scene. A second-alarm was requested, and additional tankers and brush trucks were dispatched.

The fire was so intense nearby sheds and trees caught fire. The embers from the fire lit up the night sky, and sparked brush fires 100 yards away.

Firefighters had to hose down an engine to prevent it from catching fire.

It took 52 firefighters about four hours to bring the fire under control. No injuries were reported.

The cause remains under investigation.
