The blaze took nearly one hour to bring under control.

In the early morning hours of Friday, Jan. 11, the Lakeview Fire Department responded to the report of a house fire on Maple Street in West Hempstead, N.Y.

On arrival, units found a large private dwelling with a heavy fire condition on all floors and flames through the roof. It was quickly determined that all nine residents, including six children, were accounted for and they had escaped safely due to properly operating smoke detectors.

Large caliber streams were positioned to battle the main body of fire while additional hand lines were stretched to control the extreme radiant heat endangering the neighboring homes.

The blaze took nearly one hour to bring under control.

Several surrounding communities were summoned on mutual aid assignment and Nassau County Fire Marshals and Town of Hempstead building officials were also called to the scene. There were no reports of injury.
