Jan. 9, 2008
They were evacuated after the fire spread

On Jan. 1 at 11:16 p.m., the City of Rolla Fire & Rescue responded to a report of a fire in the building at the American Motor Inn located at 1810 North Highway 63 in Rolla, Missouri.

Upon arrival, fire crews found a large amount of fire in the second floor in the rear of the building. They attacked the fire with 1 3/4" hose lines, but were unable to contain the fire due to its expansion into the attic.

Fire crews performed a primary search of the building and accounted for all occupants. Shortly after performing the search of the building, they were evacuated due to the extent and build up.

Using an exterior attack with large diameter hoses, master streams, and aerial devices, they began the process of extinguishing this fire.

Mutual aid was requested of the Rolla Rural Fire Department to the scene due to the extent of the fire and the weather conditions which were well below zero. A total of 45 firefighters were on the scene throughout the night. St. James & Doolittle Fire Departments moved to Rolla fire stations.

In addition, emergency crews with the Rolla Municipal Utilities, American Red Cross, Rolla Street Department, and MFA were utilized at the fire scene.

Three members of the City of Rolla Fire & Rescue were treated for minor injuries.
