Escambia County, Florida Firefighters Battle Tire Store Blaze

On Sunday, July 18, 2004, a Pensacola tire store went up in flames in northern Escambia County, Florida.

At 11:00 AM, the Escambia County fire/EMS Dispatch Center reported receiving numerous phone calls for a structure fire at the C & W tire Store, located at the busy intersection of U.S. 29 and Nine Mile Road.

Firefighters from eleven county stations battled the blaze for several hours. Four additional companies from outside the county were also requested for manpower.

The building contained over two thousand tires which made extinquishment extremely difficult.

Four firefighters were transported to area hospitals for apparent heat related problems.

The cause of the fire is believed to be electrical in nature.
