BEACHWOOD, Ohio --

Residents were evacuated after a fire broke out at the Verdante Village apartment complex in Beachwood.

Residents will unlikely be able to enter their apartments today or Wednesday to collect belongings. Red Cross is at the scene to help the residents.

Officials said about 4 feet of water is in the parking garage located underneath the complex.

About eight fire departments, including Solon and East Cleveland, responded to the fire at Verdante Village complex, which has about 30 units.

There are one-, two- and three-bedroom units in the complex located across the street from Nordstrom.

Firefighters said the fire broke out in a third-floor apartment. The roof of the back portion of the complex collapsed.

It's unclear if everyone got out of the building. Firefighters will soon go door to door to check.
