New Jersey Firefighters Battle High-Rise Blaze

At least one firefighter was being treated for injuries.

Firefighters battled fire in an Asbury Park hi-rise apartment complex that is the home to many senior citizens.

The blaze broke inside the Monroe Towers apartment building at 610 Sewall Avenue just before 11:30 a.m. The fire appeared to be on the 14th story of the building.

Flames shot out the windows of one apartment, where at least one firefighter was being treated.

The fire department was still battling the blaze as of noon.

Senior citizens populate about 75 percent of the Monroe Towers apartments.

The building was completed in 1965 and is the fourth 4th tallest building in Asbury Park.
