Newton, Mass. Firefighters along with Paramedics from American Medical Response responded to a horrific crash and rollover on Route 9 in the Chestnut Hill section of Newton about 3:30pm Sept. 12.

Assistant Chief Jiminez arrived on scene and reported he had a two car motor vehicle accident with a rollover. One car was on each side of Route 9, a heavily traveled state highway. A Volkswagen collided with an SUV while traveling westbound on Route 9. The impact caused the Volkswagen to go airborne over an 8' high median strip fence and land on the eastbound side of the road.

The two occupants were trapped in the vehicle and Firefighters used hydraulic extrication equipment to extricate the men. The driver was trapped under the dashboard and it took rescue workers over 15 minutes to complete the extrication.

Both patients were transported to the Beth Israel Hospital in Boston with serious injuries. The accident is under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police Crash Analysis and Reconstruction Unit.
