Septic Tank Crash Makes For Stinky Situation In New Jersey

At 20:01hrs, Madison Fire HQ's received a report of a motor vehicle accident, Route 24 Eastbound by the Greenwood Ave. Bridge. Engine 2 & Rescue 4 arrived on scene to find a 5000-gallon septic tank truck involved in a single vehicle accident.

At 20:01hrs, Madison Fire HQ's received a report of a motor vehicle accident, Route 24 Eastbound by the Greenwood Ave. Bridge. Engine 2 & Rescue 4 arrived on scene to find a 5000-gallon septic tank truck involved in a single vehicle accident.

The truck had blew a tire and driven up the highway embankment and collided with the Greenwood Avenue overpass. The driver was removed from the truck by Fire and EMS personnel and transported to Morristown Memorial Trauma Center in critical condition. Approximately 2000 gallons of sewage was dispersed along the highway and the street above, while the tank remained half full. Whippany F.D Haz-Mat Team and the Morris County Haz-Mat Team provided assistance.

The New Jersey State Police contacted a septic tank Co. to remove the remainder of the sewage from the tank. Fire units remained on scene until 0114hrs.
