A 20 year old South Brunswick, New Jersey man and his friend were lucky to make it out of their car early Sunday morning before fire consumed it. The driver was driving his 1989 Dodge Spirit down US Route 1 when he noticed smoke coming through his vents. He pulled the vehicle onto Blackhorse Lane when he lost power to the vehicle.

The driver and his passenger then saw flames in the engine area and got out of the car and called police. The vehicle was engulfed in flames within minutes. No one was injured and it appeared the fire was caused by an unknown mechanical problem. The 2:30 am fire caused Blackhorse Lane to be closed for approximately 30 minutes.
