New Jersey Firefighters Battle Blaze

Command arrived and reported a 2 ½ story single family dwelling with heavy smoke showing.

On April 3 shortly after 11:30 a.m., a dwelling was dispatched in Pitman, Gloucester County, N.J.

Companies responding were advised of a possible basement fire at 103 Lexington Avenue.

Police arrived and reported a working fire. Command arrived and reported a 2 1/2-story single family dwelling with heavy smoke showing.

The second alarm was transmitted.

Companies went into operation with a 1 3/4-inch handline to find fire conditions in the basement and in the walls.

Pitman's Truck Company went to the roof to vent. Minutes after cutting the vent hole flames ripped through the attic area.

The third alarm was transmitted bringing in additional manpower.

Crews battled the blaze for nearly an hour before bringing it under control.

No injuries were reported on the fire ground.
