Wildland Fire Erupts in Palo Alto, California

A wind driven vegetation fire swept through 125 acres of rolling hills near Stanford University on Monday, June 25, 2007. The fire, first reported just after 4:00 pm required several hours to contain and prompted voluntary evacuations of homes along Old Page Mill Road.

Cal Fire, City of Palo Alto Fire Department, and numerous mutual aid units were able to provide structure protection, while aggressively attacking the flanks of the fire. The fast moving blaze produced a column of smoke that could be seen from all over the Santa Clara Valley.

There were no reported injuries and the cause of the blaze is under investigation, but may be related to a faulty generator.
