The truck driver amazingly escaped the truck prior to it exploding.

McLane Fire and Life Safety and the McLeary Fire Department along with other mutual aid units responded to a tanker fire on Washington State Route 8 at the Thurston/Grays Harbor county line on Saturday morning, June 9th after the truck driver swerved to miss a herd of deer on the highway.

The tanker was allowed to burn to reduce the environmental impacts on the area. Burning fuel flowed through a culvert into a small wetland area on the opposite side of the highway. The truck driver amazingly escaped the truck prior to it exploding.
