A police officer spotted smoke showing.

A Clayton County Police officer on routine patrol came upon a house at the intersection of Silent Trail and Iron Gate Road.

Heavy smoke was coming from under the roof eaves when he arrived on Wednesday April 9, at about 11:35 a.m. Clayton County firefighters were dispatched. Responding units included Engine 6, Brush Truck 6, Medic 6, Engine 12, Quint 11, Air/Light and Battalion 2.

Engine 6's crew pulled two 1 3/4 inch pre-connects to the front door which was found to be locked.

They entered the home as fire broke through the roof. A defensive attack was ordered by command, and the structure was evacuated.

A large diameter hand line was pulled by back up crews who initiated the defensive attack from the front yard. It took firefighters 10 to 15 minutes to bring the fire under control. The fire was reported out by command at 11:50 a.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No one was home.
