Lancaster County-Wide Communications dispatched Robert Fulton Fire Company to 1573 Furniss Road, Drumore Township for a barn fire. Deputy Chief 5-13 Gerald Nolt arrived to find a 40 x 100 barn fully involved.

The barn was used as a wood shop and storage facility. Tools, several lawn mowers, two snowmobiles and a boat were destroyed in the fire.

Rawlinsville and Quarryville Fire Companies assisted Robert Fulton along with EMS from Wakefield Ambulance. Oxford Fire Company was placed on standby in Robert Fulton's station while Pequea Fire Company was relocated to Rawlinsville fire station.

Firefighters aboard Engine 5-13-1 and Tanker 5-13, started fire suppression efforts as surrounding companies were still responding. Quarryville Truck 5-7 was the fourth unit to arrive at the scene. Deputy Chief 5-13 directed them to set up on the B/C side of the barn and prepare for elevated master stream.

Firefighers from Quarryville and Rawlinsville assisted with immediate water supply, while others set up a draft at nearby Fishing Creek that was on the property.

The fire was knocked down quickly with the elevated master stream on Truck 5-7. Crews then began the task of removing tin to uncover any and all hot spots.

The fire was under control at 2 a.m.

Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshals are still trying to determine the cause of the fire. Early estimates of damage were listed at $200,000.

There were no animals in the barn and no injuries were reported.
