Firefighter Saves Woman's Life in Massachusetts

Police and firefighters treated the occupant on scene until she was transported to the hospital.

At 10:03 p.m. the Spencer Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire. Firefighter Mike Gadbois noticed heavy fire coming from a second floor window of a two-story wood framed residence. A civilian advised him that a person was still in the building.

Police Officer Joe Gelinas, Gadbois and Arico Bellizzi Jr , a retired firefighter, entered the building without any protective gear in an attempt to reach the victim. But, heavy smoke and intense heat pushed them out.

Gadbois ran to the side yard and saw the victim hanging on to the porch railing. He was assisted by the others.

Firefighters were faced with heavy fire from the front and side windows when they were ordered to do a secondary search. No one was found,

Spencer was assisted on scene by fire departments from East Brookfield, Leicester and Paxton. The fire is currently under investigation by the state fire marshal's office.
