Fire Destroys South Carolina Home

April 4, 2007
Fire units arrived to find the entire house engulfed in flames.

Colleton County (SC) Fire-Rescue responded to a well involved house fire Thursday morning 29-March at 05:26. The caller reported to 9-1-1 operators that the house was fully involved. The 20 year old single family dwelling is located at the end of a small dirt road on the Edisto River in northern Colleton County. Many of the homes have seasonal residents, so there were not any neighbors to see it burning.

Fire units arrived to find the entire house engulfed in flames. A LP tank was venting on the "D" side of the building. Firefighters dedicated one hand line to cool the LP tank while other crews attacked the fire in the structure. The house is a total loss. No one was at home at the time of the fire. Four tankers were used to shuttle water for the firefighting effort. No fire hydrants are available in the area. SC State Police Fire Investigators have been called to assist with the investigation. No injuries were reported.

Engine 501, Engine 1901, Tanker 502, Tanker 1102, Tanker 1904, Tanker 2602, Squad 904, Battalion 1, Car 17 and Truck 12 responded. Battalion Chief Rich Ellis served as Incident Commander.
