Around 11:00 PM on Tuesday, June 29, 2004, traffic on I-24 westbound was brought to a stop when an older model white Chevy van went out of control, smashed the guard rail, and rolled over twice.

The two occupants that were inside the van were trapped, so emergency crews with the City of Chattanooga Fire Department and Hamilton County EMS were dispatched to the scene.

Firefighters were able to extricate the first patient in a short time. While Hamilton County EMS transported that person, in critical condition to Erlanger Medical Center fire crews continued to extricate the second person. Firefighters were finally able to free the second person from the wreckage, but unfortunately, that patient passed away at the scene.

City of Chattanooga Police Departments Traffic Division is investigating the accident.

This collision also caused another collision that sent one truck driver to the hospital by Hamilton County EMS with some minor injuries.
