Crew Coordinates High-Angle Rescue of Florida Construction Worker

The worker suffered burns after coming into contact with lines.

(Lighthouse Point, FL) --- A 24-year-old construction worker suffered second and third-degree burns when he came in contact with high voltage power lines Thursday, March 29.

The noon incident occurred at a residential construction site in northeastern Broward County.

The unidentified worker was above the third-floor level on tubular steel scaffolding when the power lines made contact with him or the scaffolding. The jolt caused the victim to land on the floor of the platform.

Lighthouse Point Fire Rescue responded, and immediately requested a Technical Rescue Team response from Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue.

Advanced life support care was initiated by members. A high-point change of direction pulley was employed to facilitate removal of the immobilized victim.

The patient was classified as a trauma alert, and transported by Broward Sheriff Rescue 32 to North Broward Medical Center in Pompano Beach. Lighthouse Point Police Department is investigating.
